Monkey and I stitched our first five Inklingo flowers for the World’s Biggest Hexagon Quilt a few weeks ago, but we want to have more ready to mail to Australia by November 15th. Russ will be watching the World Series tonight, so I need to be prepared for a cosy Saturday evening at home. PBS is showing an old Sherlock Holmes mystery (love Jeremy Brett) and an old Poirot. Since I have seen them both before, this is an ideal Inklingo stitching opportunity. If baseball is your choice, you will probably have even more time to stitch. “Baseball is six minutes of action crammed into two-and-one-half hours.” (Dusty old quote) There is plenty of time to stitch a few flowers between pitches, eh?

My copy of The Quilter’s Album of Patchwork Patterns arrived yesterday, and I am very glad I ordered it. It is a perfect source of inspiration for anyone who enjoys using Inklingo. I have used Barbara Brackman’s excellent Encyclopedia of Quilt Blocks for years, and I admire her contribution to quilt history. This new book by Jinny Beyer is destined to become a favorite reference too.

Monkey and I have had a big weekend. Last summer we signed up for two events at the Toronto CreativFestival (Sewing/Quilting/Beading/etc). We splurged on the champagne & hors d’oeuvres evening with Kaffe Fassett (Friday), and his color class (yesterday). It all developed in an unexpected way.

Almost all of the Inklingo # 1 and # 2 CDs are gone now—just a handful left.
To replace the CDs, all of the shapes will be available in smaller downloadable collections. Monkey and I have several of the new collections in a half-finished state, or close-to-finished, but yesterday we were finally able to get one all-the-way-finished. Whew! The rest will come soon.

This is a fun challenge from a wonderful group of quilters in Australia. Gail Chalker and four friends are collecting hexagon flowers from all over the world to assemble into what will be the World’s Biggest Hexagon Quilt. They expect to get into the Guinness Book of Records AND, even better, the end result will be made into smaller quilts and distributed to nursing homes in Australia. “It was a plan to promote the happiness of all.” (Emma, Ch. 53)

There is a new toy at our house, and it doesn’t involve quilting! I cannot explain it, but I find it irresistible.
I have great memories of sewing as a very young child and as a teenager. We also played cards and games, and we enjoyed building and making things–forts, playhouses, costumes, knitted scarves, yards of spool cord, doll clothes—anything at all.

Rae Ann Holbrook has finished the center of a gorgeous quilt top with Inklingo, using the design of Rhonda Pearce’s Award Winning quilt, “Insanity,” which was on the cover of Issue 16/6 of Australian Patchwork & Quilting. It is an amazing accomplishment, especially considering some of the challenges that life has thrown at Rae Ann this year. Neither of us is sure whether hand piecing more than 10,000 half-inch hexagons is therapy or insanity. We know this design is easier and faster and more portable with Inklingo than with any other method, but. . . well. . . Monkey says ten THOUSAND of anything (except maybe chocolate) is a bit over the top.

Tilde’s wonderful Inklingo Sampler Blog adds instructions for a new block design every Friday, and this week’s block requires squares with triangles on the corners. This little video (2 minutes) was prepared to show you how easy it is with Inklingo.
