Monkey loves a mystery!
This one is perfect for everyone because it can be hand pieced or machine pieced.
The COTSG uses the New York Wheel Shape Collection, which we just introduced a few days ago on the blog.
The Mystery Quilt uses 6 inch blocks, so it is a bit small for a beginner to quilting, but it is perfect for a beginner to Inklingo.
By the time you finish the Case of the Secret Garden, we think we will have taken the mystery out of Inklingo. (There’s no real mystery once you’ve printed your first sheet of fabric.)
I was able to use fabrics from my stash. You might not need to buy anything other than the shape collection and it is at a special sale price, but only for a limited time.
There are hot leads in the first clue.
If additional evidence or plot twists are uncovered, they will be on the blog before the next clue is announced.

Pattern all printed out and I am gathering up my fabrics. Need to wash some of it so I am ready to start printing. I will use from my stash.
OK, you lured me in. I love a good mystery so I am off to purchase the design collection. You do realize that means I need to put my Insanity quilt aside until this mystery is solved. I do suppose I can work on the Insanity between clues of the mystery.

So detective Monkey. What do you think of a black multiple colored thin stripe for the dark?
I’m guessing non-directional fabric would be recommended unless you don’t mind if your stripes go in different directions. But that’s only a guess from an “amateur sleuth.” The clues so far don’t make anything obvious. VBG

Yes, you are correct. You could use directional fabric, but it would be a lot more printing and a lot more waste. Striped fabric is the same (page 5 of Clue # 1). In Clue # 2, there is a diagram for an efficient layout for each shape, but if you wanted stripes to go along the center instead of side-to-side, it might not be as efficient.
I hope you will be following along with the clues, Barb! It would be even better in person with marshmallows.

Hi Sandy,
It is hard to imagine “a black multiple colored thin stripe” without a picture, but if you like it and if there is strong contrast with the other fabrics, it should work. Have you looked at the wrong side? Is it light enough to print? A test page is a good idea because there are a lot of dark shapes. You would not want to have to use templates for those!!
The mystery doesn’t allow for directional fabric and you might need more to make sure the stripes go the way you want to (see page 5).

I’ve been picking out fabrics and making sure everything is prewashed and ready to go! I will be sure to blog about this too – AND I have a friend who loves mysteries who is going to join in! It will be her first experience with Inklingo – yippee! I think I’m going to use a stripe in this as my medium. Hope that works! I have 2 yards of this fabric and it goes very, very nicely with my dark so I couldn’t resist. And who knows? I might just let those stripes run willy-nilly in the design. LOL!

Hi Gail, Good news! You are in time to start the mystery. I think there are quilters who are waiting to see what the quilt will look like before they even start, so you will have some company.
